Data quality and method

What is measured, how, and where it is weak. Refreshed with every build; this page is the reference for the numbers on the site, in the emails and in the exports.

Sources

Every posting comes from the company's own careers system through the public job-board APIs of Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, four times a day. Nothing is scraped from LinkedIn or aggregators, and nothing is self-reported. A posting counts as closed when it disappears from its company's feed; the index cannot tell filled from withdrawn.

Definitions

• New roles. Postings whose posting date falls in the window; where a feed has no date, the day the index first saw it.
• Leadership seats. Titles containing Head of, Director, VP, GM or C-level, excluding client-facing and assistant titles (account director, chief of staff, field CTO and similar). One seat posted in several cities is one row.
• Velocity. New roles in 7 days against the company's prior four-week weekly average; "accelerating" needs at least 5 new roles and twice the average.
• Expansions and new functions. A first posting in a region or function not present in the company's current or tracked postings; companies with 10+ live roles only. Until the archive is 90 days old this means "first since tracking began".
• Time to fill. Median days a closed posting was open, per company, over the last 90 days, ignoring postings older than a year.
• Salary. Annual base ranges parsed from the compensation field or description; 8,176 informative USD ranges (top under 3x the bottom). On-target-earnings ranges (581) are flagged OTE and excluded from base medians. Level is inferred from the title.
• Functions. Assigned from title and department by rules with tests; expect a few percent of roles in the wrong function.
• Skills. Word-boundary matches against 69 tool and skill names, after removing each company's boilerplate paragraphs.

History

Tracking began on 2026-09-09; 5 of the 21 days since had a refresh. There was no refresh between 2026-09-10 and 2026-09-27 (17 days): the 1,938 closures noticed on 2026-09-27 happened somewhere in that stretch, so they are left out of closures in 7 days, net change, contraction and time to fill. A role re-listed under a new id (same company, title and region, within 14 days) continues the original opening and counts as neither new nor closed; 55 this week. The weekly index starts in the week tracking began, and a week without a refresh every day is shown as partial and never compared.

Known limits

• Companies not on Greenhouse, Lever or Ashby are not tracked; the list is in Companies.
• Posting dates on some feeds are the last edit, not the first publication.
• Ranges are as posted; a company-wide placeholder band shows up as one.
• History starts on the first tracked day, so week-over-week and 90-day signals mature over the first quarter.
